DTCM Overseas Campaigns Hit Bulls Eye In East And West

NewsreleaseDate: 2004-10-07

Dubai Ranked Fourth Leading Destination In The World

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is making Dubai's presence felt right from France in the West to Japan in the East by participating in major exhibitions in these countries.

It is pulling all stops to promote Dubai in these important markets which is paying rich dividends as the emirate's participation at the recently concluded Top Resa 2004 (the largest tourism fair for the French travel & tourism professionals) saw Dubai clinch the fourth place among the top destination in the world.

It was stiff competition as the organizers first short-listed the top 95 destinations from around the world and these were then ranked by tour operators participating in the fair.

DTCM Manager Overseas Promotions, Mr. Khalifa Ali Buamaim received the award on behalf of the DTCM.

Earlier this year, Dubai was also acknowledged as the best destination in the world for French tourists during summer, by the Association of Tour Operators in France.

This was the 26th edition of Top Resa which attracted 1,350 exhibitors of which 78 were new. The number of trade visitors touched 26,000 - a 15 per cent increase over the previous year. The event was attended by 400 journalists from around the world.

The number of Dubai hotel establishment visitors from France increased by seven per cent in 2003 over the previous year from 62,767 to 67,032 while 42,806 visitors visited Dubai in the first six months of 2004.

Meanwhile, in the East, the DTCM participated in Japan Association of Travel Agents Exhibitions (JATA) World Travel Fair 2004 in Japan in line with its aggressive marketing and promotional agenda to tap growth opportunities in near and far markets.

The objective was to maintain the level of interest in Dubai in this important market which has seen more than 100 per cent increase in the number of Japanese tourists to the emirate in the first quarter of 2004 compared to the same period last year.

DTCM Officer Overseas Promotions Khalid Ibrahim bin Nassar represented the department at the exhibition.

The exhibition attracted 101,641 visitors from travel trade, media and general public. The number of trade visitors touched 35,533, a ten per cent increase over the previous year.

The DTCM team comprised 12 co-participants for the exhibition which included Dubai-based hotels and travel and tour operators.
