SEMICON JAPAN 2004 SET FOR DECEMBER 1-3

Online Registration Now Available for Expo

Serving World's Largest Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Market

TOKYO, Japan, October 2004 – SEMICON Japan, the world's largest exposition for semiconductor manufacturing, returns to the Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan, December 1-3. The annual exposition, now in its 28th year, is organized by SEMI. More than 1,600 exhibiting companies will occupy about 4,100 booths. Online visitor registration for the exposition is now available.

"SEMICON Japan 2004 will highlight the latest products, technologies and services for the production of semiconductors and related microelectronics devices," said Dennis Uchida, president of SEMI Japan. "The high level of interest in the exposition reflects Japan's status as the world's leading market for both semiconductor equipment and materials."

The expo, with the theme "The Challenge of Innovation and The New Frontier Spirit," will showcase the latest technologies, materials, and services for semiconductor wafer processing, testing and assembly.

In addition, a number of special exhibits will be included, such as biotechnology, medical electronics, MEMS/NEMS, and an area devoted to semiconductor technology from emerging regions such as Russia, India and China. The MEMS exhibits will be supplemented by programs, including a special address on December 1 by Mr. Motoo Matsuura from Juken Kogyo Co. Ltd., and the 8th SEMI micro system/MEMS seminar on December 2.

Exhibitor seminars will be held daily in Hall 1F, with 70 sessions scheduled over the three days of the expo. The seminars, free of charge to registered visitors, provide a platform for exhibitors to announce new products and technologies.

The SEMI Presidents Reception, held December 1 at the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo, will provide a networking opportunity for industry executives. The evening reception is also the venue for presentation of the fifth annual SEMI Akira Inoue Award for Environment, Health and Safety.

Leading scientists and engineers will address the latest advances in semiconductor device process technology during the SEMI Technology Symposium (STS) from December 1-3. More than 85 technical presentations will be presented in addition to three daily keynote addresses. The keynotes will be given by Dr. Yasuhiko Ito of KDDI, Dr. Paolo Gargini of Intel, and Dr. Tsugio Makimoto of Sony. The keynotes are open to all expo attendees free of charge.

The latest trends and market outlook for the worldwide electronics, semiconductor, and equipment and materials industries will be addressed at the SEMI Market Seminar on December 3.

In addition to the programs and discussions on prevailing technology and business trends, SEMICON Japan 2004 will be the venue for discussion and development of global standards for semiconductor manufacturing. More than 70 standards meetings, including 14 committee meetings, will be held from November 29 to December 3. The Standards Friendship Reception on December 2 honors industry volunteers and will feature the 2004 Standards Recognition Awards.

The International Packaging Strategy Symposium (IPSS) 2004 on December 2 at the VIP Conference Room, International Exhibition Hall 9, Makuhari Messe, will focus on technical trends and developments in IC packaging for digital home appliance and automobile applications.
