Boxing Promoter Looking At Venues For Organising Championship
The world's greatest promoter of boxing, US celebrity Mr. Don King, is on his first visit to Dubai to explore opportunities for promoting heavy weight boxing in the emirate.
Mr. King was received by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) officials. These included DTCM Manager Missions Mr. Hamad bin Mejren DTCM Manager Visitor Information Bureau Mr. Salah Al Ansari in addition to Mr. Adnan Osman, the Promotion Consultant at Al Fajer Enterprises.
Mr. King, who is known internationally for staging the best in world-championship boxing, is visiting Dubai under the patronage of the DTCM, Al Qasr Hotel and Al Fajer Enterprises. He will also be looking at investment opportunities in the emirate.
The department has organised a programme for Mr. King which includes a city tour, visit to Dubai Tennis Stadium, Dubai World Trade Centre, a Desert Safari and meetings at The Palm, The World and Jebel Ali Free Zone in addition to venues where the international championship can be hosted.
Don King-promoted events have given the sports and entertainment world some of its most thrilling and memorable moments. Inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1997, King was the only boxing promoter named to Sports Illustrated's list of the "40 Most Influential Sports Figures of the Past 40 Years."
Mr. King's career as a promoter spans three decades and includes more than 500 world-championship fights.
Mr. King has gone on to set new high-water marks in the boxing promotion business. Nearly 100 individual boxers have earned US$1million, or more, under Don King Productions-promoted events.
He has also been featured on the covers of Time, Sports Illustrated, Ebony, Jet and countless other magazines. He has appeared in movies, television shows and on numerous television and radio talk shows.
Mr. King, who arrived on October 10, 2004, is in Dubai until October 15, 2004.
