Los Angeles Music Awards Are Open to the Nation & the World

NewsreleaseDate: 2004-10-13

Artists, bands and musicians from all over the globe are invited to take part in the Los Angeles Music Awards, often a gateway to major label signings and success – a report by The G-Man

For 14 years, Al Bowman has kept alive his dream. "I wanted to recognize the independent artists in the music business, and the L.A. Music Awards became a way to do that throughout the entire year, with showcase performances and special events that point the way to the awards ceremony at the end of the year."

For nearly a decade and a half, Bowman has worked to make it happen, serving as Executive Producer on every show. Often, he also was producer, director, deal-maker, and emcee. While show producers, stage managers, production associates, publicists, and promoters have all come and gone, Bowman is still here, still working, and still smiling.

Taking Aim at the LAMA.
Other people have put LAMA in their crosshairs - they've tried to hijack it, destroy it, steal it, copy it, hold it up for ransom, and counter program events against it. But Bowman is still moving-and-shaking, and the others are long gone.

Star Power.
Love it or hate it, the L.A. Music Awards has done pretty well in recognizing talent: independent artists who were lauded by LAMA prior to going on to receive recording or publishing deals include Save Ferris, Zebrahead, Alien Ant Farm, Tia Texada, Powder, Cirrus, Danny Blitz, Jenna, and Jennifer Paige. Oh yes: and me. There, I've revealed my bias. (Editor's note: The G-Man won Electronica Artist of the Year in 2002 and is nominated this year.) But when you consider that Slash, Paul Rodgers, Steve Lukather, Jackson Browne, and many others have shared the LAMA stage during the past 13 years, I'll stand by this fact: you can see stars and stars-in-the-making at an L.A. Music Awards show.

From L.A. to the World.
It may be called the L.A. Music Awards, but it is open to artists from all corners of the globe. While it is too late to enter this year, you should make a note to consider entering in 2005. Find out more on the LAMA Web site: www.lamusicawards.com.

Because when the LAMA ceremony takes place this coming November 18 in Hollywood, who knows what new star will emerge from that night.

The G-Man is on Delvian Records. Hear songs at www.gmanmusic.com and
